Instagram: Your Front Row Seat at New York Fashion Week
We have decided we are officially done with Winter. Our toes are cold, our noses won’t stop running and we want to be able to feel our fingertips again. However, we are feeling all sorts of excitement in the midst of New York Fashion week and the upcoming trends for Fall/Winter 2018. We know that once we’ve had a couple of weeks of our makeup sweating off this Summer, we will be ready for cosy jumpers and fluffy socks again. This year the Men’s and Women’s show have been placed next to each other meaning a two week long extravaganza of fashion for all is happening right now.
Another exciting change is the rise of Instagram as a platform for fashion. Instagram has pretty much revolutionised the fashion world in the last couple of years by becoming a direct hub for normal people to have a stamp on the fashion world rather than an Editor-in-Chief choosing what is on trend. We are now seeing it truly finding its place in the fashion cycle and opening up a world of creativity to anyone who has a smartphone. Anyone can ultimately design their own alternative to a glossy magazine by choosing the images on their profiles with precision, a smooth colour scheme and maybe a nice camera (though even a Google Pixel 2 will now give you top quality images that would champion most DSLRs).
Our top 4 instagrammers who are giving us life with NYFW coverage are:
Krystal Bick: @krystal_bick
Eugenie Grey: @feralcreature
Tamu McPherson: @tamumcpherson
(And because everyone loves a bit of Vicky B) Victoria Beckham: @victoriabeckham
And you can follow us @magicmirroruk. Our founder Liesel Corp used to dress models at London Fashion Graduate Week whilst studying her fashion degree and always struggled with models who wanted to be able to see how they looked to make them feel their most confident whilst walking down the runway. She designed the Magic Mirror, the full-length travel mirror, for the busy backstage environment so that getting ready anywhere becomes easy.
Brands such as Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors used the ever addictive Instagram Stories to give their supporters exclusive behind the scenes footage and first looks at their shows in Sept FW and it seems this was only the beginning. This February designer Lela Rose opted for an Instagram show that went live on the 8th as opposed to her usual garden parties or restaurant shows. She choose her 10 favourite influencers and bloggers to style her designs in their own way to connect directly with their followers and customers and then released the images over 10 hours for a full day of social media fashion! We absolutely love the final looks and you can still check them out over on her instagram: @lelarose
